One day online webinar on ‘Pandemic and Emerging Issues of Child Rights’ was organised by the Department of Communicative English and media studies of Patna Women’s College on Monday.
The main guests and the speakers for the webinar were Mr. Rafay Eajaz Hussain, Head at Save the Children, Bihar State Project Office, and a valiant child protector and Deputy Director at Save the Children, India, Mr. Prabhat Kumar.
Mr. Prabhat Kumar started the disquisition by elucidating on how the pandemic has affected the physical and mental health of children. He also shed some light on child rights and their importance. He further elaborated that child labour and child marriage as the things that” cannot be changed even after the pandemic”. The pandemic has worsened the situation. Expounding further, Mr. Rafay Hussain explained how Bihar is the state with highest population of children, youth, and people who migrate to other cities for work. He further added, how the pandemic is not just a health emergency but also a social issue. It has taken in its ruthless fold the children as they have to go through the digital divide and the violation of their rights.
The discourse proceeded with a question-answer session. Answering one of the questions, Mr. Prabhat Kumar said, ” Studying law, I can say that harsh punishment has never reduced the number of crimes. It’s not the harsher punishment but the correct punishment that brings justice in the society”. The session had commenced with Priyanshi Singh, a student of the 5th semester,welcoming the resource persons followed by a profound introduction by the Course-Coordinator, Dr. Tauseef Hasan. Geetika Ranjan a student of 5th semester, delivered the vote of thanks, thus, concluding the symposium.
